Student Success Coaching
Student Success Coaching represents a relational connection and collaborative effort between the student and coach to help achieve your educational goals. A coach can meet with you one time or multiple times to help navigate the challenges you face in an encouraging and supportive way.
Just like coaching a sports team, a coach will share strategies and options for you in the areas you discuss together. It will be up to you to practice those new skills to see if they work for you and then keep working with your coach if you want to add, change or move on.
Who can use a student success coach?
Any student registered for an RVCC course (current students, early college students, new students getting ready for their first semester) can reach out to the student success coach. This is most important if you are a first-generation college student, meaning that you do not have a parent or guardian who attended college as a role model.
How can a student success coach help you?
Students sometimes need extra support obtaining their educational goals in ways that include academic and non-academic support.
Managing expectations and providing feedback will help students frame a positive mindset about college. Often just a conversation can be helpful. Here are just a few topics of conversation that tend to come up.
- Help mapping out time management plans
- Suggest note taking practices
- Help you understand your learning style
- Review your syllabus with you for clarity
- How to navigate CANVAS, your online course delivery system
- Connect you with the CAREs team for outside resources
- Introduce you to Accessibility Services, Library Services or Tutoring
